Theory Class

 

Each class room is spacious, airy, well ventilated and well lighted with modern facilities for imparting teaching like slide projector, overhead projector, transparencies etc. (audio visual aids), with internet facilities.

Laboratory

 

The college has twelve laboratories to run these courses, each measuring 1200 Sq. ft. Each laboratory has sophisticated instruments of precision and accuracy, reagents, chemicals, glassware etc. The laboratories are well decorated and well furnished with vinyl flooring. The tissue culture laboratory is fully air conditioned and the computer lab is with internet facility.

Library

The college has large well lighted library with a reading room attached to it containing 2000(approx) Books, Magazines, Newspapers etc., offering facilities for quiet study. Students are encouraged to take full advantages of the college library. A student willing to borrow books, journals or magazines can do so on asking for the same but these are to be returned within the specified date. Important books, journals and magazines related to these modern courses are available in the college library.

 

 

 

Hostel

 

The college has separate hostels for boys and girls in the campus. The hostels have their own kitchen. The rooms of the hostels are spacious, airy and well ventilated. The rooms are provided with cots, chair, table with drawer, electricity and generator facilities. Internet facility is also provided in each room of the hostels after seeking permission from the Principal and at nominal charges. A common room is also present in each hostel. Newspapers are also distributed each hostel everyday. Each and every student must follow the strict rules and regulations of the hostels.

 

 

 

Canteen

Canteen and Coffee shops are also situated inside the campus premises which cater sweets, snacks, tea, coffee etc. The students may take their meals from this canteen also. The students are expected to make best use of it. Going outside the college campus during college hours is prohibited. They may, however, leave the college campus on proper need with prior permission of the principal or other officials of the college.

 

 

Gymnasium

A large gymnasium with all modern facilities is located inside the campus. It is the healthiest facilities for the students in the campus. For girls, their gymnasium facilities are present in their hostel and for the boys it is separately in the campus. One male and one female physical trainer are present in the gymnasium.

 

 

Games

There are suitable arrangements of indoor and outdoor games for the students of this college. The college has its own playgrounds for playing Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton etc. Carom, Table tennis etc. are used as indoor games. The students may participate in interdisciplinary tournament in different type of games. Two sports officer are appointed to see the matter of sports and events.

 

 

Internet and Telephone

 

Internet facilities for 24 hours are also provided to the students at nominal charges. The students may use these communication facilities inside the campus. An S.T.D., I.S.D. and P.C.O. telephone booth is located within the campus.

 

 

 

Environment

The college also provides a totally pollution free atmosphere. It has its unique natural beauty. The campus has well maintained gardens and marvellous landscape.

 

 

 

 

Medical Facilities

Medical facilities are provided to the boarders of the hostels. A general Physician is always present to look after the students. Twenty four hours ambulance facility is also available.

 Seminar & workshop

 A Public Seminar on "Scopes and perspectives of Bio-sciences and Environmental Science in the current scenario" and a Live Technical Display of modern instruments on 10th and 11th of April 2010 from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. The seminar was presided by Prof.Dilip Kumar Basu, former Vice Chancellor, Burdwan University and Tripura University, is aimed at providing Educators and students a chance to see the current career and research prospects in the fields of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Environmental Science and also as a strong contender for higher studies beyond the traditional technical and pure sciences. The event is designed to bring together opinions and experiences from across both sectors that is industry and education, namely,

A seminar on Cancer Awareness was held on 27/11/2010, by the Durgapur College of Commerce and Science (D.C.C.S.), a premier institution of Biosciences in this region, under the banner of Rahul Foundation.The Seminar was presided upon by Dr. Prabhakar Chattopadhyay, ex-Director of Health Services and Secretary Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, West Bengal, currently CEO of Gouri Devi Memorial Hospital & Research Institute (G.D.H.R.I.), Rajbandh, Durgapur. Other noted speakers included Dr. Tarun K. Mukherjee, ex-Chief Medical & Health Officer, Burdwan, currently Medical Officer, GDHRI, Dr. Sribir Sen, Sr. Lecturer, Head of Department, Microbiology, D.C.C.S. and Mr. Kaustav Mukherjee, Lecturer, Dept. of Biochemistry, D.C.C.S. Participation was also there from the student’s end, Mr. Pranab Mishra, of Second year B. Sc. (Biotech) along with his team presented a talk on breast cancer.

 Extracurricular Activities

 Social Activities The students of this college are also involved in different social activities.

1) Blood donation camp was organized by the students.
2) A collection programme for Tsunami affected people was also organized by the students of this college. The collection for Tsunami affected people was deposited to the Relief Fund of Chief Minister of West Bengal.
3) A free computer literacy programme was conducted for the women of the neighbouring villages.


 Loans & scholarships
The students may take the bank loan facilities with nominal interest for their study which will be arranged by the college authority.
